Vancouver, BC — Vitamin D can make a substantial difference in cancer prevention and survival outcomes, yet many Canadians have sub-optimal levels of Vitamin D. This is even more prevalent during the winter months when there are fewer hours of sunlight. In an effort to create awareness about the need for and benefit of Vitamin D, InspireHealth has named November 2 Vitamin D Day, and will be offering a free national webinar on that afternoon to coincide with the initiative.
Vitamin D helps boost the immune system, and also has the added benefit of substantially reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, strokes, MS, depression and even the flu. Vitamin D is an essential component of healthy living, and can easily be incorporated into everyone’s lifestyle. The national webinar will be this Friday, November 2nd at 12 noon PST and will provide a forum to discuss and offer information on its benefits.
“We simply have to do more to engage people in this simple, safe approach to cancer prevention and treatment,” states Dr. Hal Gunn MD, CEO and co-founder of InspireHealth. “The time has arrived for nationally coordinated action to substantially increase intake of vitamin D,” he added. Last year, over 20 cities and municipalities across Canada officially recognized Vitamin D day, and this year the number is expected to rise.
The increasing momentum behind this awareness campaign is strongly supported by research evidence. A study published in the Annals of Epidemiology concluded that supplementation with vitamin D could prevent approximately 58,000 new cases of breast cancer and 49,000 cases of colorectal cancer in North America each year. Moreover, blood vitamin D level at the time of diagnosis for breast and colon cancer is highly correlated with survival.
The benefits of Vitamin D are substantial, and may be surprising to discover. Everyone is invited to learn more at the free webinar to mark the occasion of Vitamin D Day. Dr. Cletus D’Souza, Director of Research at InspireHealth, will discuss the benefits and requirements of Vitamin D for cancer prevention and overall health.
